Set observing location to calculate altitude, timing and practical visibility. This guide describes the object in general.
Never point unprotected optics at the Sun.For unaided viewing, use undamaged eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer that meets ISO 12312-2 from a reputable supplier. Eclipse glasses do not protect you when looking through binoculars or a telescope. For optical instruments, use a purpose-built solar telescope or certified, manufacturer-approved filters for visual solar use, secured over the full front aperture of every optical path. Cover or safely filter the finder. Never use eyepiece solar filters, sunglasses, or eclipse glasses behind unfiltered binoculars or a telescope. Check filters for damage. Read the AAS solar-safety guidance.
A white-light view may show sunspots when present. Current sunspot positions are not included. Prominences need specialised solar equipment.
